Actually the inverter is not for displaying things on the screen. In the case of a CCFL backlit screen the inverter converts DC power to high voltage AC to drive the lamp. In an LED it’s a converter and it’s a DC to DC converter.

Thanks so much! This helped me quite a bit while fixing my Dell D610. I would have mentioned the inverter cable plug pulls straight up unlike the LCD cable plug that slides out lengthwise. A minor point nonetheless. Thanks again for all the help. I do appreciate it! :)

You are right. Anti static band is useful when you are touching the micro processor, controller and sensitive components. LCD screen is not that sensitive. Besides you did not touch any open electrical contacts in your video. The cables/bus that you touched are covered with adapter plastics providing sufficient insulation.

Then don’t use my video if you don’t like the way that I did it and make your own video!
I hope this helps with your dilemma! Sorry you can’t get passed the anti static strap requirement. I still stand firm and suggest that you ask anyone who has already used my directions to change their screens successfully without an anti static strap if they needed one!
FYI – You do not have to have one! :)

Good Luck!

Why would I ant to check if you have a degree or not.And for your information you do have to wear an anti static strap when working on the inside of any part of a laptop.Check the breakdowns on the Dell dcse

FSUkasi, i want to use my Sony Monitor from my desktop via external VGA to my DELL laptop, so far it work by hitting Fn+F8 but i want to permanently used the Sony screen because I can’t afford to buy a new screen for my laptop, is there a way to get this done without having to hit those functions everytime i turn my laptop on? Also on my laptop there’s wires that connect’s on the back cover (i think it’s for WLAN) that keeps me from taking off the whole screen, is it OK to just relocate that?

Okay what’s the question? “You say you have a degree in IT.” I am telling you I have a degree in IT from Florida State University and I graduated December 2008! Check the graduation ceremony records! Second, “Where is your anti static strap when replacing the new lcd” I chose not to use one, you DO NOT have to use an anti static strap when replacing an lcd screen, you can as an extra precautionary measure, but you can also where safety goggles and gloves too and I also chose not to where those.

No offense taken! I can understand why you would say that, lol! But I made this video for an assignment for one of my capstone courses in my final semester at Florida State University. I actually won an award for my entire website with this video from the dean of my college. So, trust me I would have rather not have had to go through the whole speech, but I had to. :)
Well, did the video help you anyway?

You’re a doll, thank you for showing people how to do this. I already know how to and have done this but I am glad there are people out there like you. I prefer desktops over laptops as laptops are so delicate. Thank you again.

Haha, I know there are those that would rather not deal with it. But, I wanted to give people the ability to do it themselves so they did not have to pay an arm and a leg to get their screen fixed.
